Peter Heristanidis

My name is Peter Heristanidis and I turned 80 this year.

I am of the Greek Orthodox faith, though nowadays I only go to church during religious fest-days like Easter, Christmas, major saints-days, weddings, funerals and memorial days. As a young boy I toyed with the idea of becoming a priest but as I got older I realized it was not for me.

There were two films that I really enjoyed out of the selection.

What Next? Anna, Anastasios and Arthur.
This film moved me, it was good to see someone Greek and hear their story.  It is very difficult coming from another country and not having the emotional support you need from your family, during difficult times. I think this film showed the importance of family and I like seeing my language and culture portrayed.

Surprisingly I really enjoyed the film with the little Vietnamese-Australian girl, in Saturday, Sunday, Monday; it was like watching my life. It was an honest depiction of today’s migrant family in multicultural Australia. We all want to keep our traditions, language and culture and we want our kids to work hard to school, so as to become successful and good ambassadors for our homelands.
